Montessori Music Program

Our vision: Maria Montessori believed in educating the whole child with music classes, and likewise, Sweet Song Studio seeks to provide a holistic musical education.

Methods: The methods employed at Sweet Song Studio seek to teach musical concepts such as rhythm, pitch, notation, phrasing, dynamics and more through body percussion or whole-body movement in response to musical cues. The methods also employ solfege singing (do-re-mi) as a teaching device, which enables students to understand the building blocks of pitch and melody.

To help children reach this musical goal, we use different types of materials:

  1. Keyboard

  2. Recorder

  3. Desk bells

  4. Xylophones

  5. Tambourine (small drum)

  6. Rattles and more

Why choose Sweet Song Studio?

  1. Your child’s education is our priority

  2. Reflecting the community, we serve and our own values, we embrace diversity and the inherent potential in each child

  3. Students gain experience performing in recitals

  4. We offer piano, voice and music classes in Spanish, Portuguese and English languages.

How do we teach musical rules?

Starting from the principle that children first learn to speak and then learn to understand grammatical rules, the same happens with the development of music. First, one learns to play, and then we gradually understand the musical rules and delve deeper into them. From this moment, the student will be fully involved with the art of playing the instrument, having the desire to seek more and more knowledge and to increase their repertoire. In this way, our students feel more motivated to learn the instrument, and development occurs naturally. The study becomes not obligatory but a curiosity and passion for playing an instrument. This is a practical and dynamic method for beginners.

How are the classes composed?

A) The classes consist of homework and explanations of musical approaches, mechanical exercises, and applications through contextual music. We encourage the student to practice 15 minutes a day at the beginning of the course and gradually, as they advance in their learning, this time increases to (1) hour per day or more, at their homes.

B) In each class, we introduce a biblical story and a related activity (10 minutes) in each class. The goal is to start directing the child or student to understand and hear the Lord's voice through Bible reading and to understand the Lord's call and direction for each one's life. I encourage parents to join their children on this journey.
